Pow Wow is coming up quick and with that comes the travel media awards and tons of extra press kit building for me! Well, usually that is what it means! However, in my big push to get things going more along the lines of being green, I suggested rather than having companies send tons of paper press kits, they should just send compact discs (c.d.s) with all of their press releases and information burned onto them. Not only does it end up being more cost effective if you have a lot of press releases, but it also saves a lot of paper!
My boss, Susan, is in charge of the press room. What that is, is at these large events, rather than having your information stacked up in your booth, you provide a lot of it to be kept in one place, the press room, where media can come in and take information for only the companies they need or are interested in. It saves space at the booths, allowing more booths to fit in smaller areas as they do not need nearly as much space, and it keeps everything very organized. However, the press room can be EXTREMELY chaotic from what I understand and she is in it from 8am until late into the evening with very few breaks. She is very experienced in this industry, though, so she is always well prepared and knows exactly what to expect and how to deal with the situation.
Anyway, she really loved my idea and presented it and there is a good chance that this will be the first travel Pow Wow where they will not use paper press kits! I think this is not only a great move for the environment but a really big step for me, because they used my idea! I will definitely include that (our c.d.) in my portfolio!
